Our collaborations on renewable fuels

SunPine SunPine

Sunpine, partly owned with Sveaskog, Södra, Kiram och Lawter, in which Preem has invested 45 million SEK. SunPine’s world-leading bio-refinery supplies innovative and sustainable products that are based on tall oil, a residual product from Kraft pulp mills. Today with a capacity of about 100 000 m3 tall oil and 24 000 tons resin. In 2018 SunPine to invest in a new plant to increase tall diesel fuel capacity by 50%, planned to come on stream in 2020. Given the right conditions, SunPine could meet 14 per cent of all renewable diesel requirements in Sweden by 2030 and become a role model. www.sunpine.se

Setra group Setra group

Preem and the wood industry company Setra start a collaboration for the first production plant for a production of pyrolysis oil, a green raw material for renewable fuels extracted from forest residues. Construction is expected to begin in 2019, and the facility is estimated to provide around 25,000 tonnes of pyrolysis oil per year that, via Preem’s refinery in Lysekil, will be refined into biofuel. The partnership with Setra is part of Preem’s ambition to manufacture 3,000,000 cubic metres of renewable fuel at refineries in Lysekil and Gothenburg by 2030. An application for an environmental permit has been made. www.setragroup.com

Biozin AS Biozin AS

Preem AB and Bergene Holms AS has entered into a cooperation with the intention to manufacture large-scale of biofuels. Biozin Holding AS planned prouduction is estimated to 120,000 m³ biozin® per year. Licenced technology that produces biofuels made of organic material. The fuel can be used directly or mixed with fossil fuels such as petrol, diesel and aviation fuel. Biozin® is an advanced durable biooil with very good durability data that can be refined on Preemraff Lysekil or Gothenburg for renewable content in fuels. The planned production plant in Jordøya is expected to be operational in 2022. www.biozin.no

RenFuel RenFuel

Preem and RenFuel, in collaboration with Rottneros, will build the world's first lignin plant for biofuels at Rottneros mass production in Vallvik, Söderhamn. The plant is expected to produce an annual volume of 25,000-30,000 m3 of lignin and to be completed by 2021. The company wants to achieve an annual production capacity of 250 000-300 000 tons of ligning by starting more ligning plants. The new major investment in Söderhamn will be an important part of the journey to reach the goals. The plant will produce a lignin raw material with very low emissions and greenhouse gases. Lignin raw material is then shipped to Preem's refineries where it is transformed into renewable gasoline and diesel. www.rottneros.se

Biojet for aviation industry Biojet for aviation industry

Preem and SAS have signed a letter of intent to produce renewable aviation fuel, known as biojet/biofuel. SAS has the ambition to replace today's fuel volume for domestic airplanes with biojet/biofuel by 2030. The total ethylene capacity for biofuels is estimated at over one million cubic meters, of which a subset can be biojet/biofuel for aviation. Estimated startup at our refinery Göteborg is end of 2022 for a production of 300.000 m3 per year.
