SynSat-revamp project SynSat-revamp project

Preem is currently retrofitting an existing hydrotreater unit to be able to co-process from 40% renewable feedstock, producing diesel products containing HVO meeting both Swedish MK1, or European En590 Diesel specifications. When finished the project will achieve an annual reduction in scope 1-3 emissions more than 1.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.The project was approved by the Preem board in May 2021 and site-preparations have already begun. The target is to have the project mechanically completed by the end of 2023 and commence production of renewable fuels by the middle of the fist quarter.

Preem has applied for an updated environmental permit and a ruling is expected by end of June 2022. 

In end of April 2022, Preem secured a 3,000 MSEK state credit facility issued by Svensk Export Kredit. The credit facility is issued with a guarantee from the Swedish Debt Office (80% of total debt).

Project Viking Project Viking

Project Viking is the potential installation of a new, stand-alone plant on a lot on the existing Preemraff Gothenburg refinery premises. As currently envisaged, Project Viking would entail the installation of a Haldor Topsoe Hydroflex unit, a hydrogen production unit including a pre-treatment plant, that would be able to produce HVO-100 and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from various sustainable feedstocks such as for example used cooking oil, waste tallow and rape seed oil. The project is designed to increase renewable fuel production by approximately 1,000,000 cubic meters per year, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by up to 2.5 million tons annually across scope 1-3.

From Sawdust to Gasoline From Sawdust to Gasoline

At Pyrocell, a Preem - Setra joint venture company, where it started the manufacture of fast pyrolysis bio oil (FPBO) in 2021 at it's Gävle-plant. Pyrocell is aiming to produce almost 25,000 tonnes of fast pyrolysis oil per year. This FPBO are transported by truck and rail to the Preem Lysekil Refinery where it is upgraded to advance renewable fuel in our FCC-unit.

Isocracker revamp Isocracker revamp

The ICR project is of similar magnitude to the SynSat revamp project and is designed to allow co-processing of renewable feedstock (used cooking oil, waste tallow and rape seed oil) through the existing Isocracker unit at Preemraff Lysekil. The project is designed to increase renewable fuel production by approximately 1,400,000 cubic meters per year, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by up to 2.5 million tons annually across scope 1-3. A feasibility study is currently in progress for the project.
