The Land and Environmental Court has ruled that the planned operations at Preem's refinery in Lysekil are allowed. Preem sees the decision as a positive step forward and looks forward to a constructive dialogue during the ongoing process.
“It is gratifying that the court has made a positive decision. A new environmental permit is crucial for implementing the transition from fossil to renewable production at the Lysekil refinery and is an important part of ensuring Preem achieves climate neutrality by 2045,” says Petter Holland, CEO of Preem.

Preem’s application concerns a new environmental permit for the Lysekil refinery in order to begin the transition from fossil operations to renewable, which the current environmental permit does not allow. The application also includes the development of the refinery’s capacity to upgrade high-sulfur heavy oil to sulfur-free gasoline and diesel with lower environmental impact. In addition, the planned plant is an important piece of the puzzle in phasing-out fossil raw materials and in Preem’s goal of producing 5 million cubic meters of renewable gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel by 2030.
