Following the previously communicated delay of the Synsat project, the final commissioning of the Synsat unit at the Lysekil refinery has now been further postponed following a fire in a transformer earlier in November 2024. The fire has caused no personal injuries and the company has not identified any environmental damage from the incident. Following assessment of the damage caused by the fire, it has now been determined that the affected transformer will need to be replaced entirely. Although various mitigative measures are being explored, it is likely that the Synsat unit will not be on-stream – neither for fossil nor renewable production – until early January 2025. At this juncture, management’s assessment is that the Synsat outage will have a negative impact on the Q4/2024 results. However, the quantification of the negative impacts on financial and operating results cannot reasonably be estimated at this time.
